The Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio is our award winning license-free radio designed and tested in the Colorado Rockies. Created with climbers and skiers in mind, the compact radio is suited for any rugged adventure where communication is critical.
A specialized lithium-ion battery provides over 4 days of battery life, even in very cold conditions (-20°F). For enhanced durability, the radio has a shatterproof LED screen and thermoplastic protective covering. Unlike the fragile plastic clips of other radios, the Mountain Radio easily secures to backpacks and harnesses using an ultra-light carabiner and back-up leash.
The radio transmits the maximum power legally allowed for use without a license (2-watts). The max range is over 35 miles, however, 1 to 5 miles is more typical in backcountry terrain. For more info on range, please see our range testing video or blog post.
The Mountain Radio is ready to use out of the box and requires zero configuration. The electronics are simple and reliable - the radio has 5 buttons that are easy to understand while still supporting the critical advanced features (such as privacy codes to prevent outside interference).
Compatible with our Waterproof Hand Mic!

For the last several years we've gone and worked cattle in NW Oklahoma. We are in rugged terrain on the New Mexico state line just south of the Black Mesa. There is no cell phone reception where we camp. When we gather cattle we split up and cover everything from mesas to draws. These radios helped us stay in touch with help and we were able to guide them to different locations. They were used to gather cattle that could be seen up top and check in with others. When I seen cattle I would use it to guide people to the cattle and we were able to gather them. We will not be without one ever again.

These radios work perfectly for the size of our aerial park. The challenge with other radios was always being able to cut through the forest and rock face in the canyon and these radios do the job! We also love the size and design making it perfect to attach to our guide's harnesses. We are very happy with the purchase.

I absolutely love these radios. I bought them because every time I’d go skiing with my kids (6 and 9) we’d constantly loose so much time on the mountain waiting for each other when we’d get out of sight, or shouting up the hill at each other trying to coach them down more challenging terrain.
I was attracted to them because of the small size (for little bodies) and the carabiner clip system.
Now it’s so nice, I just clip them on the front of their jackets and we’re good. They can go to ski school and radio me anywhere on the mountain when they’re near the end of their lessons to coordinate where to meet. I can effortlessly queue them to drop a feature if I wanna film them. They even clipped them to the front of their bikes and go for rides in the neighborhood now and we can easily call them for dinner.
The battery life is insanely good, I think that I’ve charged them once or twice this season and huge number of Channels make sure of no cross talk.
They are expensive but I would buy them again 10 times out of 10.
