Rocky Talkie Search & Rescue Award Program Terms and Conditions

The Rocky Talkie Search & Rescue Grant Program (“Program”) provides financial grants to nonprofit search-and-rescue organizations that support lifesaving outdoor rescue operations. By submitting an application, applicants agree to the following terms and conditions.
1. Program Sponsor
The Program is administered and sponsored by Ledgetech LLC, doing business as Rocky Talkie (“Rocky Talkie”), a manufacturer of backcountry communication equipment headquartered in Colorado, USA.
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Program at any time.
2. Program Purpose
Rocky Talkie donates $2 from every radio sold to support nonprofit search and rescue organizations.
Funds from this initiative are distributed annually in the form of grants intended to support:
- Search and rescue operations
- Rescue and safety equipment
- Training and certifications
- Volunteer support and operational readiness
- Other mission-aligned activities that improve rescue capability
Grant funds may not be used for political activities, lobbying, or purposes unrelated to search and rescue operations.
3. Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The organization must be a nonprofit search-and-rescue organization operating in the United States or Canada.
- The organization must conduct active search-and-rescue operations.
- The organization must be in good standing with applicable nonprofit regulatory authorities.
- Applications must be submitted during the official Program application period through the Rocky Talkie website.
Government agencies, sheriff’s departments, and other government-operated rescue units are not eligible unless they apply through a qualified nonprofit partner or supporting nonprofit entity.
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to request documentation verifying nonprofit status.
4. Grant Amounts
Grants are typically awarded in the following amounts:
- $5,000
- $10,000
- $25,000
The total funding pool and individual grant amounts may vary each year.
All grant awards are made at the sole discretion of Rocky Talkie.
5. Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the official Rocky Talkie website during the announced application period.
Applicants must provide accurate and complete information, which may include:
- Organizational information
- Description of search and rescue operations
- Intended use of grant funds
- Impact statement or organizational mission
- Supporting materials requested in the application
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to reject incomplete or inaccurate applications.
6. Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee composed of Rocky Talkie team members and external advisors from the search-and-rescue community.
Applications may be evaluated based on factors including:
- Demonstrated need for funding
- Impact of the organization’s rescue work
- Community benefit
- Alignment with Rocky Talkie’s mission of improving backcountry safety
- Quality and completeness of the application
Selection decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
7. Conflict of Interest
Members of the selection committee are expected to act with integrity and fairness during the evaluation process.
If a committee member has a personal, professional, or financial relationship with an applicant organization that could reasonably create a conflict of interest, that individual must disclose the conflict and recuse themselves from evaluating or voting on that application.
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to implement additional safeguards to ensure a fair and impartial review process.
8. Permitted Use of Grant Funds
Grant funds must be used for search and rescue-related purposes, which may include:
- Rescue equipment and gear
- Communications equipment
- Training programs and certifications
- Operational infrastructure
- Volunteer support resources
Recipients are not required to purchase Rocky Talkie products as a condition of receiving a grant.
Grant funds may not be used for political activities, lobbying, or non-mission-related expenditures.
9. Reporting Requirements
Grant recipients agree to provide a brief post-grant report describing how the funds were used and the grant's impact on their operations.
Rocky Talkie may request:
- A short written summary
- Photos of equipment or operations supported by the grant
- Stories illustrating the impact of the grant
These materials help Rocky Talkie convey the program's impact.
10. Publicity and Media Use
By applying for the Program, organizations grant Rocky Talkie permission to:
- Publicly announce grant recipients
- Use the recipient organization’s name, logo, and general description
- Share photos, stories, and mission descriptions related to the organization’s search and rescue activities
Such materials may be used in:
- Rocky Talkie website content
- Marketing materials
- Social media
- Annual impact reporting
Rocky Talkie will make reasonable efforts to accurately represent recipient organizations.
11. Payment of Grants
Grant payments will be distributed via check, ACH, or other approved payment method.
Recipients may be required to provide documentation, including:
- Proof of nonprofit status
- Tax identification documentation (such as a W-9 or Canadian equivalent)
- Payment instructions
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to withhold payment if required documentation is not provided.
12. Tax Responsibility
Grant recipients are responsible for determining and complying with any tax obligations associated with receiving grant funds.
Rocky Talkie does not provide tax advice and makes no representations regarding the tax treatment of grant awards. Recipients are encouraged to consult their own tax advisors regarding any reporting or compliance requirements.
13. Misrepresentation or Misuse of Funds
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to withdraw or reclaim grant funds if:
- Application materials contain false or misleading information
- Funds are used for purposes materially inconsistent with the stated grant purpose
- The recipient organization is found to be ineligible under Program requirements
14. No Endorsement
Participation in the Program does not constitute:
- An endorsement of Rocky Talkie products by the recipient organization
- A partnership, sponsorship agreement, or agency relationship
Grant recipients are not required to use or promote Rocky Talkie products.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ledgetech LLC d/b/a Rocky Talkie shall not be liable for:
- Technical issues or failures related to application submission
- Any damages arising from participation in the Program
- Use or misuse of grant funds by recipient organizations
16. Program Changes
Rocky Talkie reserves the right to:
- Modify these Terms and Conditions
- Adjust grant amounts or funding pools
- Change application timelines
- Suspend or cancel the Program
Any updates will be posted on the Rocky Talkie website.
17. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted under the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
