We are excited to introduce our GMRS radio with IP67 waterproofing, 5 days of battery life, and 5-watts of power for optimal range. This radio is fully compatible with our award-winning FRS Mountain Radio.
Designed and tested in the mountains and rivers of the Colorado Rockies, the radio is rugged with protective rubber padding and a shatterproof LED screen. Each radio is hand-tested to IP67 waterproofing standards (1 meter submersion) and includes a water-shedding design for quick communication in white-water.
The 5 Watt Radio maximizes two critical aspects of a backcountry radio: battery life and range. The radio includes a specialized 1800 mAH battery that achieves around 5 days on a single charge, even in frigid conditions (-20°F). The radio transmits the highest amount of power for handheld GMRS radios (5-watts). The max range is over 35 miles, however, 2 to 8 miles is typical in backcountry terrain. For more info on range, please see our range testing video.
Easily attach the 5 Watt Radio to packs and other gear using the integrated steel gator clip (with 360° rotation) and backup leash. The radio is also compatible with our Carabiner Attachment which comes with either the Quantum ultralight climbing carabiner or locking carabiner that we crafted with our local Colorado partner, Trango.
The 5 Watt Radio includes useful features for the backcountry, including access to 11 weather channels and NOAA weather alerts, as well as dual-channel monitoring and transmitting. The radio’s GMRS designation unlocks 8 repeater channels to relay & extend your transmission range, as well as a removable antenna.
Each radio comes with a compact and high-performance 7.5cm antenna installed, and our longer 17cm antenna is included in each box. The 17cm antenna moderately improves range and boosts weather channel reception.
Compatible accessories:
Waterproof Hand Mic – especially popular for backcountry skiers

Bought the bundle of two! They individually came in their own boxes. Each complete with the components needed for each.
They are rock solidly built. Easy to see they are not cheaply made.
Went through the directions that were included with each. So simple to understand. Programming them to your own selected channels very easy. The Alligator Belt Clip is extremely well made. Definitely Alligator!
I immediately changed out the antenna’s to the longer antenna for peak performance which was included with each radio. $15 savings per antenna. Transmit and receive crystal clear and volume is great.
Great buy! No Disappointments!

These things are awesome! My brother and I used these recently on the Soque river and they were great. We were fishing different parts of the river and never had a problem communicating. The clip is strong and kept it in the perfect place on my waders to push the button to talk. Can’t wait to use these this hunting season. You won’t regret buying these, I promise!

I recently took the Rocky Talkies 5W radio on a camping trip, and it quickly became one of my most valued pieces of gear. Here’s why:
First, the waterproof design is a game-changer. I was able to securely attach the radio to the exterior of my deck bag, keeping it within easy reach at all times—no worries about rain, splashes, or rough conditions. Fast access makes a huge difference when you’re out in the elements.
The range and battery life on this radio are fantastic. Even in dense forest and hilly terrain, I had no trouble staying in touc. The battery easily lasted through long days, giving me confidence that I wouldn’t be left without communication.
On my trip, the Rocky Talkie proved invaluable. I was able to pick up weather alerts and even listen in as park rangers discussed severe storms and downed trees in the area. Knowing I could call for help if needed offered real peace of mind—something you just can’t put a price on when you’re far from civilization.
I hope Rocky Talkie expands their product lineup to include mobile radios for vehicles and other uses.
After this experience, I won’t head into the backcountry without my Rocky Talkie. It’s become an essential part of my adventure kit.
Highly recommended for anyone who values safety, reliability, and ease of use in the outdoors! Check out the video clip of my Rocky Talkie on my deck bag in the swamp!

I bought a couple of these with mounts. My wife and I can communicate driving across the state and I can grab it and hop out to spot her on the trail.

Radios survived their first cave trip. They were wet, muddy, and knocked around but functioned great! I was able to communicate clearly from the bottom of a 260 foot pit to the top while already deep underground.
